To create something that truly impacts people’s lives requires a deep level of understanding, both of the land and ecosystem that shape a place, and of the lives of the people who inhabit it. The most meaningful landscapes feel natural to their surroundings. They carry a strong sense of place and are thoughtfully connected to the people who experience them every day.

When I imagine a garden, I picture people feeling invited outdoors, spending time together in the sun, gathering around a fire in the evening, sharing stories, and connecting with one another within the beauty of the environment they call home.

I named my practice Drawn Outside to reflect this philosophy.

The name speaks to the idea of being drawn to study a landscape carefully and to think more deeply about the environments we inhabit. It emphasizes the importance of drawing thoughtful conclusions from what a site reveals and from what a space makes us feel, and ultimately creating places that people naturally want to spend time in.

To me, landscape design is both analytical and creative - an ongoing process of observing closely, understanding context, and translating those insights into spaces that feel intentional and enduring.

Design Philosophy

The Drawn Outside logo gathers inspiration from the ocotillo, one of the most distinctive (and one of my favorite) plants of the Sonoran Desert. It was the first plant that truly made me stop and feel curious about desert landscapes. Its striking structure and remarkable ability to cycle through leaf growth many times throughout the year left a lasting impression on me. I am drawn to the idea of creating landscapes that share those qualities: designs that are bold and memorable, yet adaptable through the changing seasons and cycles of life.

In many ways, the ocotillo represents the qualities of the Sonoran Desert that I admire most: adaptability, clarity of form, and a strong sense of identity.

That same spirit guides my work as a designer: creating landscapes that are distinctive, rooted in their surroundings, built to evolve over time, and that invite people into a deeper sense of curiosity and connection with the world just outside their door.
